Arren's Salsa Dancing Journal

Salsa Dancing Journal
June 24, 2006

Last night I went to the Philadelphia Salsa Congress social dance. When I arrived, I was a little disappointed to see that the room wasn't a packed as I expected. I guess I was disappointed because I had set my expectations before the event.

Here's how I figured it.. It was a Friday, the second day into the Congress. The end of the Congress is Sunday night with another social dance at night. You would figure that there would be so much energy and excitement that everyone would show up at the event. Maybe the weather had a play in it. It wasn't the best of nights because it was damp and drizzling.

I arrived at 11 pm and more people started to show by 12 am and the crowd started to thin away away by 1:30 am. Personally, I don't think it was worth the $20 cover charge, but overall, I had a better time at the Congress social dance than at a place like... say.... Brasils.

I haven't attended a full Salsa Congress yet, so I'm not sure if this is the norm. Perhaps all the people showed up for the workshops and then was too tired to show up for the dance?

I may do the Philadlephia Salsa Congress in 2007, but I'm definitely going to go to the Phillipine Salsa Congress in 2007.

Stay tuned for more info about that event, I will be posting that news on my site.
