Mens Basic Salsa Step

Here is an animation for the mens basic salsa step.

Slow Animation

This is a rather slow animation so that you can follow and understand the steps.

Remember that there are 8 beats to the basic salsa steps, but you only step on 6 of them -- 1, 2, 3.. 5, 6, 7.. You should not move your feet on the 4th and 8th beats. As you can see in the animation the 4th and 8th beats are not shown. The feet just stand still for those beats.

Practice following the footsteps only when they are shown and you will develop the correct timing.

Fast Animation

Here is the fast animation of the basic salsa step. It may seem fast to you, but it is really at a medium tempo for a salsa song. Believe it or not, salsa songs are usually a little faster.

The really fast salsa songs are about double the speed of this animation. When the really fast songs play you usually see only a few good dancers out on the dance floor because this speed is extremely difficult to keep up with for the beginner/intermediate dancers.
